A Farewell Thought from Amador Centeno

A Farewell Thought from Amador Centeno

Our organization was quite different when I arrived 15 years ago. Now as I prepare to depart Columbia, I’m overcome with pride, fulfillment, and gratification thinking about all we’ve accomplished together. Over the years, we have seen dreams of buildings and ideas for research spaces grow into landmarks of learning. We have built and maintained the campus as its landscape has changed. Gradually, but steadily, we have improved countless aspects of the CUIMC experience for our students, our faculty, our researchers, and our staff. And behind every achievement and success, are each of you. The best part of my job has always been working alongside all of you, and I will sincerely miss what we do together.

The change that will come over these next few months, and perhaps beyond, will be difficult. Change always is. But I know that you are up for the challenge. I have seen you endure so much and excel in unbelievable circumstances. I know your resilience well and have seen you come together as so many things literally fell apart. I have witnessed your courage and potential to overcome and your capacity for excellence. I could not be more grateful, and proud, to have led such a talented and accomplished team. Not only has the campus community benefited from your contributions, but so have I. The fact that I leave as a better person is a by-product of my good fortune to have worked with this incredible group of individuals throughout my tenure–and I can’t thank you enough for all of you’ve meant to me.

Keep growing this place and keep growing in this place. I urge each of you to take hold of this opportunity and the momentum we have worked so hard to generate and keep it going. Dream more. Build more. Do more. Do it together.
