Assistive Listening Devices

Assistive listening devices are available upon request. To request an assistive listening device for one class or event, please contact Classroom Technology Support at least 48 hours in advance by calling 212-305-3255 or emailing

If an assistive listening device is needed for a student for an entire semester’s class, please indicate this on the course request spreadsheet that you submit when scheduling for the academic semester.

Assistive technology is available upon request. Examples of assistive technology include screen reading software, screen magnification software, Braille translation software, voice recognition software, reading and writing software, video magnifiers, and others.

Disability Services can assist instructors, Columbia programs, and departments in obtaining closed captioning for videos and DVDs shown in a classroom as well as podcasts.
