Short-Term and VP&S Interview Housing

We offer one to three month stays in 50 Haven Ave. for eligible applicants, as well as two-night stays for interviewees at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

1-3 Month Stays

Eligibility

You must fall into one of the following categories to qualify for short-term housing:

  • Part-time graduate degree candidates at Columbia University in an approved program of academic work, as determined by the school in which the student is enrolled.
  • Individuals engaged on a short-term basis in approved activities at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

How to Apply

  • Your stay must be for a minimum of one month and a maximum of three months.
  • Obtain a letter from the CUIMC department that's hosting you. The letter should include the reason for and the duration of your visit to CUIMC.
  • Submit this letter and a photo of yourself via our online short-term housing form.

Rate

  • The monthly rate for short-term accommodation is $1,500. This includes electricity and wireless internet.
  • There is a minimum stay of one month and a maximum stay of three months. You may stay a maximum of three extra nights beyond your monthly stay. This is subject to availability. Each extra night will incur a daily rate charge of $50.
  • You can check in with the door attendants at 60 Haven Ave at anytime. Check-out is at 10 a.m. after your last night.
  • Guests staying in short-stay housing are billed monthly and pay for housing on our online portal using a major credit card. This provides a secure and convenient way to manage your housing charges during your stay with us. After your first payment, subsequent months will be billed at the end of the month for the following month’s charges.  

Accommodations

  • A single dorm room, approximately 10'x13', located in 50 Haven Ave.; each room includes a twin XL or full size bed and mattress, dresser, desk and chair, lounge chair, and a set of bed linens and towels
  • Communal bathrooms and showers on each floor
  • Communal kitchen on the 11th floor
  • Wireless internet provided by CUIMC IT
  • Mail services: You will receive a slip under your door indicating mail is available for pick-up at the Office of Housing Services. After you check out, any mail received for you will be returned to sender unless special arrangements have been made.
  • Microwave/mini-Fridge combo in certain rooms.
  • Pay-per-use washers and dryers on the second floor
  • You can purchase a monthly pass to use 50 Haven Ave. Athletic Center, located in the lower levels of 50 Haven Ave.
  • Housekeeping service is not provided. You are responsible for the cleanliness of the room.

2-Night Stays for VP&S Interviewees (Available August-January)

Eligibility

You must be an applicant of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and have an interview date.

How to Apply

Rate

  • The nightly rate is $40 - $47 depending on room amenities. The maximum length of stay is two nights.
  • You can check in at the Office of Housing Services, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., or with the door attendants at 60 Haven Ave after 5 p.m. Check-out is at 10 a.m. after your last night.
  • Payment by U.S. personal check, Visa, or MasterCard is due upon your arrival.

Did you know CUIMC affiliates qualify to sublet an on-campus housing unit? This includes individuals doing rotations at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center during the summer months.
