What prep work do you and your staff do to prepare for Commencement?

As commencement approaches, we start to prepare the campus in detail. Stripping and waxing of all corridors in all buildings, detailed cleaning of lobbies and common areas, polishing of all brass, pressure washing sidewalks, and cleaning all of our glass entrances.

Knowing that your work is unique and special to Commencement Week, is it different than your “normal” work?

Without a doubt, I feel different leading up to Commencement. I look at it as the game is on the line and the ball is in my hand. I always want to come through in the clutch. I wouldn't say it's different from my regular work routine; what's different is the amount of detail and attention given to all phases of prep work across our campus when Commencement is approaching.

How do you and your staff feel seeing all the students, families, and volunteers on campus during Commencement Week?

The custodial staff and I take great pride in knowing that this is our time to shine and make our campus look exceptional. When students, families, and volunteers come to CUIMC they see a clean and beautiful campus that lives up to Columbia's name and standard of excellence.
