Athletic Center COVID FAQs

* Starting this coming Monday, March 14, 2022 you will no longer have to show proof of vaccination. 

Below are frequently asked questions related to 50 Haven Ave. Athletic Center as it relates to COVID-19 and the operations of the athletic center. 

Important: In order to be in compliance with New York City's "Key to NYC" guidelines, all student and non-student members must show proof of their COVID-19 vaccination to enter 50 Haven Athletic Center. *Starting Monday, March 14, 2022 you will no longer have to show proof of vaccination. Proof of vaccination includes:

  • CDC Vaccine Card
  • NYC COVID Safe App
  • NYS Excelsior Pass
  • Other Official Vaccine Record

Will the fitness center open?

Yes, the 50 Haven Athletic Center is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Pool schedule is Monday - Friday: 10am - 1pm, 2pm - 4pm.

What do I need to enter the center?

Student-members will need the following items for entrance into the Athletic Center:

What are the hours?

Monday-Friday: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. (the last workout session begins at 5 p.m.)

Pool schedule is Monday - Friday:  10am - 1pm, 2pm - 4pm.

Will all fitness center areas and features be available?

Yes, with the exception of the sauna and the squash court (both are under review).

What's available?

  • The Cardio Bridge, which houses individual treadmills, ellipitcals and AMT machines
  • The Free Weight Area
  • The entrance of the Aerobics room, which houses a lone elliptical machine and the strength training area
  • The pool, locker rooms, showers, and restrooms

Can I just show up at any time?

Yes, however you must still make a reservation to use the pool prior to coming to the Athletic Center. Please be on time your scheduled reservation.  Once you have arrived you can stay as long as you like and past your scheduled time. 

How can I make a reservation?

You may make a reservation through our online reservation system. At this time, we are only accepting same-day reservations.

How will the fitness center be cleaned for COVID-19?

Every night, a cleaning crew will clean and disinfect the Athletic Center. Students using the facility also will be responsible for cleaning the equipment before and after use during their reservation time. 

Is the air safe down in the athletic center?

The HVAC filters in the Athletic Center meet the NYS guidelines outlined in the Gyms and Fitness Centers Guidelines

Will you have fitness classes?

 We will not offer any classes at this time. Please continue to monitor our website for announcements regarding future class availability.

What if the elevator is out of order to enter the athletic center?

If the elevator access is unavailable, please use the staircase next to the two main elevators.

What is expected of me as a member?

You must:

  • follow all safety guidelines, including the Columbia Community Health Compact
  • wear approved face coverings,
  • complete the daily COVID-19 attestation, and
  • clean and disinfect any equipment before and after use.

What if I don’t want to?

Access to the Athletic Center will not be permitted.

Will the water fountain be available? Can I fill my water bottles?

Water bottle fill stations will be available; water fountains will be inoperable.

How many people are allowed in the athletic center at a time?

We are going to full capacity but have a constant count of how many are in the center at any given time.   

Will I need to have a reservation every day?

No, only to use the pool. All reservations must be made online prior to arriving at the gym.

Can I use a different equipment in the gym once I’m in the facility?

Yes. With the exception of the pool, you are allowed use the equipment throughout the facility. You must, however, make a reservation to use the pool.

Will showers and lockers be available?

Yes.

Can I get my partner or spouse a membership? How about a guest?

Yes, you can get your partner or spouse a membership and no, you cannot purchase a day or guest pass, they’re currently unavailable.

Can we work out together? We live together can we work out together?

Yes, you may work out together as long as you adhere to the athletic center's guidelines and you both keep your face coverings on. 

If I forget my ID will I be allowed in the Athletic Center?

No. no exceptions will be made.

What's not available?

  • Sauna - will be initially closed and evaluated throughout the semester.
  • Squash Court – will be initially closed and evaluated through the semester.

Can I rent a towel or other equipment?

No. Equipment checkout will remain closed at this time. We recommend you bring any equipment from home you would like to use.
