Meet Diana Valentin

When Diana Valentin isn't keeping CUIMC spaces nice and clean, she might be found playing softball or eating at the secret dives of Washington Heights. Read below to learn more about what Diana enjoys most about her time here at CUIMC.

How long have you been working at CUIMC?

I've been working at the medical center for 29 years! When I was younger, I wanted to be a registered nurse because I really enjoy helping people. I also believe in the importance of quality healthcare and I work with a great team, which explains why I've worked here as long as I have.

Who made the biggest impression on you during your time here?

Yahaira Colon (senior heavy cleaner for CUIMC Facilities) is a wonderful person and an amazing friend. We have known each other for 18 years. I am the godmother to one of her children.

Diana Valentin, Head Custodian, Facilities Management

Most memorable CUIMC moment?

My first time walking into one of the anatomy rooms was definitely a moment to remember. I don’t think anything can prepare you for that.

What brings you joy or is something that makes you smile?

It sounds silly, but coming into work everyday brings me a lot of joy. Everyone is always willing to jump in and help out, especially in emergencies. If I had a superpower, it would be my super speed during leaks and floods (laughs).

Advice to your younger self?

My advice to my younger self would be to keep going, and to keep believing in yourself. It is never too late to grow.

Who has been a role model to you?

Francis Lantigua, assistant director for Custodial Services. She also started as a cleaner and was promoted to management within the department.
