Water Damage Restoration Reporting & Contact Information

As many return to work after an extended break, there are several university spaces in the Vanderbilt Clinic, Presbyterian Building, Black Building, and Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons that were damaged by water on December 24, 25, and 26. Since then, an extensive team has been working to repair pipes, clean spaces, and exhaustively remediate all water conditions in the walls, ceilings, and floors. While several key spaces have been re-occupied, there are other locations that are in the midst of repair. As members of your team may return to campus tomorrow, we wanted to let you know that the university facilities, EHS, and IT teams are here to assist with any need and to help with the transition back to full working order.

Administrators and lab managers have all been directly involved in communication with Facilities over the holiday break and occupants may also reach out direclty to them with any questions.

The following information is provided for assistance with the transition back and for any other need that may arise.

Please keep the following in mind

  • If your laboratory uses or stores hazardous materials, please assess your inventory for any flood-related impacts; if any containers/materials have been compromised, please notify Environmental Health & Safety at (212)305-7972.
  • Facilities Management is coordinating the repair and replacement of any damaged equipment. Please do not discard any damaged equipment, as our insurance company may need to inspect it before it can be replaced. Damaged lab equipment should not be moved until cleared to do so by EH&S, who can be reached at (212)305-7972 or  labsafety@columbia.edu. You can download the EH&S clearance form here.
