Transforming the Landscape of Biomedical Research
Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons has always stood at the cutting edge of advancement. The time has come again with Columbia’s newest biomedical research building, which will be a pioneer in sustainability for research facilities.
Located at the corner of 167th Street and Audubon Avenue, the new eight-story building will feature wet laboratories alongside support and administrative spaces. Our new biomedical research building signifies a leap forward in academic excellence, creating a state-of-the-art facility that will impact patient care, community, and the future of biomedical research.
This project will not only revolutionize our research capabilities but also reflect our steadfast commitment to sustainability and well-being. The design of this innovative facility underscores our dedication to a greener, healthier future. Key design highlights include:
- Sustainable Design: The building incorporates natural and renewable materials, including striking bamboo veneer, setting a new standard for environmentally conscious construction.
- Collaborative Spaces: A series of collaborative areas encourage knowledge exchange and synergy among our researchers, fostering a culture of innovation.
- Energy Efficiency: A high-performance façade, combined with digital displays providing live feedback on energy performance and health awareness information, exemplifies our dedication to sustainability.
But it doesn't end there. The new building was designed to meet New York City’s Local Law 97 requirements and support Columbia University’s Plan 2030 greenhouse gas reduction goals. Once completed, the new research building will serve as a blueprint for sustainable design as the first purpose-built, all-electric academic research lab building in New York City.
