Hammer Bldg. Steam Shutdown, 4 a.m. Feb. 9 to 4 p.m. Feb. 10

Reminder that steam systems will be unavailable throughout Hammer Health Sciences Center from 4 a.m. on Friday, February 9, until approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, due to emergency repairs.

  • While we conduct the repairs, there will be no hot water, heating, sterilization, autoclaves, steam tables, or dishwashers available throughout the building.
  • Occupants also may notice slightly cooler building temperatures.
  • During this time, Stairwell B will be inaccessible from the 17th floor down to the 1st floor. Please use Stairwell A to travel between floors or to exit in case of an emergency.

Eyewash devices and overhead emergency shower units will be functional but will be supplied with cold water only. Accordingly, please consider limiting research operations that have significant potential for splash or face and bodily exposure during the shutdown. Additionally, building occupants may notice intermittent periods of increased noise and possible odors.

Facilities personnel will be on-site throughout the shutdown and will be able to assist with any issues that may arise. Please call 212-305-HELP (4357), option 3, and a mechanic will be dispatched to your location.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve our facilities. For questions or concerns, please contact Alfred Arce, assistant director of engineering, at aa164@columbia.edu.
