  • Construction of Medical and Graduate Education Building to begin late summer

    The 14-story glass tower was designed by world-renowned, New York-based architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, in collaboration with Gensler. It will include technology-rich classrooms, an advanced simulation center, an auditorium, and unique study spaces to encourage interdisciplinary learning and teamwork. The building, located at 104 Haven Ave., is anticipated to open in 2016.

This will be an open meeting for us to introduce ourselves, learn about what CUMC is currently doing and brainstorm our Green Team goals for a sustainable CUMC. Faculty, staff and students (including existing EcoReps) are welcome. We’ll have a fun little welcome gift for you, too!

    CUMC is interested in growing its efforts to increase sustainability efforts across the campus. The most effective way to do this is to engage with students, faculty and staff to build a green team full of green champions who will help to roll out initiatives within their own space. CUMC Facilities will provide the tools and resources to learn and understand what it means to be a green champion. A Green Champion will join CUMC’s Green Team and help to grow CUMC’s sustainability efforts in the following ways:

    CUMC’s Faculty Club, including the Bard Hall Student Meal Plan, is working to get even greener. The Faculty Club, under the direction of their manager, Michael Alberto, has begun to recycle their cooking oil with a company that will collect and repurpose it for Biodiesel.

In this vein, CUMC Facilities has developed a green building plan that can be tailored to spaces, departments and buildings interested in pursuing it. It is structured in a way to parallel LEED efforts should the building or space decide to take the extra step to also pursue LEED for Existing Buildings.

  • Sustainability: Interconnected Chiller Plant

    February 6, 2013

    A primary project identified from the Sustainable Energy Master Plan was the interconnection of chiller plants on the “superblock” of the Medical Center. What this meant was to install piping to connect chilled water piping in buildings and chiller plants across the Black Building, P&S Building and Hammer Building.
