Meet Tiana Crespo

Tiana Crespo was the first Strategic Communications summer intern and she set the bar high for any who would come after her. She spent six weeks with us, shadowing and working alongside members of our team. She experienced firsthand the customer call center and how the Maximo work order system operates. She learned and contributed to our email notifications for scheduled work and urgent disruptions along the way. She spent time with members of other Facilities teams, as well, to see how the work of Strategic Communications impacts and supports all of Facilities Management. Tiana grew up in the neighborhood and she has seen the medical center campus grow throughout her life and now she's had a little taste of CUIMC. We had a blast with you, Tiana, and we wish you all the best with every future endeavor. Don't forget to stop by and see us every now and then.

Tiana Crespo, 2023 Strategic Communications summer intern

Describe your internship experience in 3 words.

Exciting, memorable, fun.

What was your favorite thing about interning with us?

I learned so much about how important the behind-the-scenes people are. I was aso able to expand my knowledge on how to communicate with people more effectively.

What was the most surprising thing you learned about CUIMC?

The way the buildings work and how they are set up. There are so many different entrances and every one is so interesting. The Black Building is my favorite building because of the people, and I love the break room as well.

What would you say was your best experience or favorite thing about your time with us?

When Chris and I had a personal conversation, he made me feel heard and understood, and he helped change my perspective on how I viewed myself.

Who made the biggest impression on you during your time here?

Definitely Prerana. She has given me clarity in different parts of my life and I feel most comfortable around her because Ii feel like she is more than just a coworker.

What some takeaways from this summer that you think will help you in the future?

My ability to write a lot better and communicate with other people in an effective way and not taking things personally. I want to own my own law firm one day and these skills will help me with that. I used to take lots of things personally before my chat with Chris. Matt and Prerana taught me to choose happiness. I learned to show up as the best version of myself and have a good attitude at work. I also learned how to make connections; it’s important to always reach out to new people because there is always something to be learned.

Who are your role models/who has been a role model to you?

My parents. No matter what life has thrown at them, they have always overcome that and shown up as amazing parents in my life and I would like to one day to do the same.

What brings you joy/something that makes you smile?

Myself. I have trained myself to see how much I’ve accomplished, and I’m able to persevere through anything and that gives confidence.

What superpower would you choose for yourself?

Transportation. So that when I want to be alone, I can go to Puerto Rico and hang out on a nice mountain

How would you describe yourself in one word? Why?

Persistent. I haven’t given up despite all of the trials and tribulations I have been through.
