Meet Jefferson Newman

It's not unusual to see Jefferson Newman, lead designer for space planning, with blueprints in hand on his way to and from meetings with campus partners. One of his main contributions comes through space planning with Capital Project Management and the CARE (Construction and Refresh Effort) team. See what else Jefferson shared with us this month.

What do you love about your current role?

Many things! The people, the variety, being creative, seeing my designs constructed, and feeling that my work is appreciated.

Who would you describe as your biggest role model?

My dad. As a mechanical engineer, he inspired me to take Drafting electives throughout high school which put me on my career path. He was intelligent and he got things done. More importantly to me, he was kind and thoughtful, and has often been referred to as a sweet man by my friends.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a guitarist. I’ve played guitar since age 10. At that time my friends wanted to be professional athletes, but I thought rock/pop bands were the coolest thing.

What brings you joy?

Great art whether it be audio or visual, and beautiful nature.

What’s something that people would be surprised to learn about you?

I performed at Apollo Amateur Night. It was just me playing my guitar and singing an original song.
