Fire Prevention Week 2021: Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety

Fire Prevention Week 2021 takes place from Sunday, October 3 through Saturday, October 9. This year's theme, "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety," aims to educate everyone about the important sounds associated with fire safety alarms.

Helpful Tips

  • When a smoke alarm sounds (three beeps) or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds (four beeps), you should exit your home immediately.
  • If your alarm begins to chirp, it may mean that the batteries are running low and need to be replaced.  If the alarm continues to chirp after the batteries are replaced, or the alarm is more than 10 years old, it is time to replace the alarm.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly.
  • If someone in your household is deaf or hard of hearing, install a bed shaker and strobe light.
