Fire Prevention Week 2021: Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety

October 1, 2021

Fire Prevention Week 2021 takes place from Sunday, October 3 through Saturday, October 9. This year's theme, "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety," aims to educate everyone about the important sounds associated with fire safety alarms.

Helpful Tips

  • When a smoke alarm sounds (three beeps) or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds (four beeps), you should exit your home immediately.
  • If your alarm begins to chirp, it may mean that the batteries are running low and need to be replaced.¬† If the alarm continues to chirp after the batteries are replaced, or the alarm is more than 10 years old, it is time to replace the alarm.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly.
  • If someone in your household is deaf or hard of hearing, install a bed shaker and strobe light.
