Beginning this evening, August 26, and continuing each night through Friday, August 29, we will be conducting a series of temporary electrical shutdowns that will affect normal power and overhead lighting on the following select floors of Hammer Health Sciences Center:
- 4th Floor: 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, to approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27
- Lower Level 1: 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, to approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday, August 28

During these shutdowns, emergency power will be operational on the affected floors. Additionally, floors not listed above will continue to have both normal and emergency power.
CUIMC Facilities Management representatives will walk each affected floor to monitor equipment and address any questions or concerns during the shutdown. Occupants located on the affected floors should take the following precautionary steps before leaving each evening this week:
- Save all files and important documents.
- Completely turn off all computers and laptops.
- Turn off all other electronic devices and non-essential laboratory equipment.
- Ensure that all essential equipment is connected to emergency power (red) outlets.
- If you are unsure if your equipment is plugged into an emergency power outlet, please contact CUIMC Facilities Management at cumc.facilities@columbia.edu , and a representative from Facilities Engineering will visit and assess your area.
Scheduled work may be subject to change due to unforeseen issues. For questions about these upcoming shutdowns, please contact Aurelio Roman, west campus building manager, at ar4939@cumc.columbia.edu.
