September 14: Open House for Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Group

On Wednesday, government officials, students, alumni, faculty, and members of the local community will gather to celebrate the opening of the Columbia University School of Nursing’s Primary Care Group in Washington Heights.

The new practice will provide integrated primary and mental health care services designed to meet the diverse health needs of the Washington Heights community. Services will include preventative health, travel health, management of chronic illness, LGBT care, and women’s health.

Columbia School of Nursing is a pioneer in nurse-practitioner led care. Nurse practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who have completed advanced education, including a Master’s or Doctorate degree plus additional preparation and are licensed to prescribe medication. They also focus on the “whole person” by counseling patients about lifestyle changes that can help them maintain the best health possible.

CUMC Capital Project Management coordinated the planning and construction of the five-floor space, which houses the ColumbiaDoctors | Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Group on the first floor; the School of Nursing, temporarily leasing the space from ColumbiaDoctors, on the second floor; and the Office of Development on the third, fourth, and fifth floors.
