Hammer Bldg. Domestic Water Shutdown, Oct. 13-14

Domestic hot and cold water service will be temporarily unavailable throughout  Hammer Health Sciences Center from 6 p.m., Friday, October 13, to approximately 6 a.m., Saturday, October 14, due to repairs.

While we conduct the repairs, the following services will be unavailable:

  • Hot or cold water for bathrooms and faucets
  • Sterilization, dishwashers, autoclaves, glass washers, and steam tables
  • Reverse osmosis (RO) water service
  • Eyewash devices and overhead safety showers

Cold rooms, environmental boxes, and supplemental air conditioning units will not be affected, and will be monitored throughout the shutdown.

Please consider limiting research operations that have significant potential for splash or face and bodily exposure during the shutdown.

Facilities representatives will on site before, during, and after the shutdown to ensure water is fully restored to the building. Once service is restored, please allow faucets to run for 3-4 minutes to ensure constant flow and pressure. Water may appear brown at first, but will turn clear as it continues to run.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve our facilities. For questions or concerns, please contact John Hession, plant superintendent, jkh2149@columbia.edu.
