Air Quality Alert for NYC Region

Updated Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 4:20 p.m.

As we continue to monitor the air quality concerns stemming from the Canadian wildfires, the National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for the New York City region, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has extended its Air Quality Health Advisory for New York City until the end of the day tomorrow, Thursday, June 8.

While we currently anticipate normal operations at CUIMC tomorrow, June 8, we encourage members of the CUIMC community to stay informed about the latest conditions and make arrangements with their direct supervisors.

Campus Updates

  • Facilities Management is limiting, where possible, the amount of fresh air that is brought into the facilities to limit the impact on our community.
  • Help protect our campus by closing and locking all windows and blinds, especially in spaces that are not normally occupied.
  • Columbia University shuttles continue to operate normally; please check the Transportation website or the Passio Go! app for the latest information.

Clinical Updates

  • ColumbiaDoctors clinical practices are expected to be open tomorrow, June 8.
  • Managers should reach out to their administrator with any questions.

Take Precautions

  • Individuals should limit their outdoor activities through the end of the Air Quality Alerts, currently scheduled to end late tomorrow night.
  • Members of the CUIMC community with breathing difficulties or who may be sensitive to the current conditions are encouraged to limit their outdoor activities and use high-quality masks (e.g. N95 or KN95) when outdoors.
  • To report an emergency on campus 24/7, call Public Safety at 212-305-7979.

We encourage you to continue to stay informed and exercise caution when traveling to and from the medical center over the next few days.
