Meet Michelle Colindres

Michelle Colindres, financial administrative assistant for the Finance and Administration team, will celebrate 20 years at Columbia University this year. She loves to learn, spend time with her family, and is a thrill ride enthusiast—she's even been skydiving!

After two decades at the University, Michelle still looks forward to continuing to grow her connections with her Facilities Management colleagues each year.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child, I always wanted to be a pediatric surgeon. As I got older, I wanted to be a nurse or teacher.

What is your most memorable CUIMC moment?

After 20 years, I can’t pick just one moment. I have a collection of memories of fun times around the holidays, good times with office pranks, celebrating as families have grown, and sharing and supporting when we have had losses. All these moments together remind me of a time when we truly were a work family.

What is your favorite thing about Washington Heights?

There are the most amazing little spots that not many people visit. Places like the High Bridge Park that are pretty and secluded or others like Fort Tryon Park that are hidden and enchanting. I got married in [Fort Tryon] park. It is a magical place!

What brings you joy or makes you smile?

What brings me the most joy is watching my children, nieces, and nephews genuinely enjoying themselves. Something about that innocence brings joy to my heart knowing I can be a part of making that happen for them. I understand that time is fleeting and try to remember to stop and enjoy it.

If you could choose to have a superpower what would you choose?

I would choose self-replication so I can do many tasks at the same time. All the duplicates would do my work, shop, clean, and volunteer while I get to spend time with family and traveling. If those duplicates would do the work accurately and with love, I think it could be a great idea (laughs).
