Meet Bourchard Olmann

Bourchard Olmann works in Facilities Engineering as a mechanic. He usually works with HVAC and refrigeration units and is a big part of keeping us all cool during the summer months. His favorite thing about working at CUIMC is that he has the flexibility and freedom to use skills and his managers trust him to get it done. His hidden talent is art and he originally wanted to go to school to be a cartoonist. If he wasn't working here, Olmann would like to be an illustrator, animator, or scientist.

What's your most memorable CUIMC moment?

The recent arctic freeze during the Christmas holidays stands out. It was a lot but everyone took turns pitching in and helping out to get things under control; that was cool.

Who made the biggest impression on you during your time here?

Norberto Lopez, who recently passed, helped me a lot, and taught me a lot, even off the clock. Alex Almonte (watch engineer) also taught me a lot of things and to be confident in my own abilities.

What is your favorite thing about Washington Heights?

The Dominican food!

What brings you joy/something that makes you smile

Just helping people in general and their appreciation.

What superpower would you choose for yourself?

Psychokinesis, the brain is the least understood "power" in the Universe.

Funny CUIMC story

Well, one time I made the mechanics paranoid because I thought we had a skunk hanging around our shop. When we caught it, turns out it was a cat!

How would you describe yourself in one word?

Understanding. I try always to be reasonable, and rational while putting myself in the shoes of others; being sympathetic and considerate of others and/or their circumstances.
