James Thompsen

James Thompsen has over 30 years of experience in managing key infrastructure systems, utilities, and the physical plant of health care facilities. He oversees the Facilities Engineering team of engineers, building managers, plant superintendents, and energy and sustainability professionals, who work together to manage Columbia University Irving Medical Center's building systems and explore opportunities to advance original building utilities and capital infrastructure. In 2008, Jim led the creation of an Energy Master Plan to reduce the campus's energy budget. Under his oversight, Energy and Sustainability initiatives have included setting a goal to reduce the campus's greenhouse gases by 30 percent by 2025. Jim also oversees commissioning for all capital projects, and his team handles $7 million worth of capital infrastructure projects each year.

Before joining CUIMC, Jim worked at Continuum Health Partners, Cosentini Associates, and Beth Israel Medical Center. He holds a BS in engineering from City College of New York.
